How does downloading work?

Following the links above will take you to our download page. On that page, you'll find links to downloads for both Windows and Macintosh versions of PhotoAdvent. Click on the appropriate link. Within a few seconds, your browser should start downloading the file. Download times vary depending upon the size of the file, the speed of your connection, and how busy the server is, among other things.

Where does the file I download go?

The answer to this question varies, depending upon your browser and the way you have it configured. Here are some possible answers:
  • Your browser asks you where to save the file when it starts to download. The file goes in the folder you choose.
  • Your browser allows you to choose a default "Downloads" folder. The file goes in the folder which has been specified. (Look under "Preferences" or "Options" to try to find this setting.)
  • The file goes to a default "Downloads" folder, chosen by your browser. (Look in the folder that holds the browser application to try to find this folder.)
  • the file goes to your desktop.
I still can't find the file, but I know I downloaded it.
A search of your hard drive should turn it up.
Windows:
  1. From the Start Menu choose "Find File or Folder"
  2. Type in "PhotoA" (It is not necessary, and is often counterproductive to try to type in the full name.)
  3. Make sure the search begins on your C: drive (C:\*.*) and click "Find"
  4. Windows should turn up all files that have "PhotoA" in their name. The file you are looking for, "PHOTOADVENT2_W95_INSTALL.EXE" should be among them.
Macintosh:
  1. From within Finder choose "Find..." from the File menu.
  2. Type in "PhotoA" (It is not necessary, and is often counterproductive to try to type in the full name.)
  3. Choose your hard disk and click "Find"
  4. This will turn up all files that have "PhotoA" in their name. The file you are looking for, "PhotoAdvent_2.0.sea.hqx" should be among them.

When you do this search, it is possible you will find that your browser has already expanded or extracted the file you downloaded. In this case, you can skip the expanding/extracting instructions and simply start PhotoAdvent by double clicking on the application itself.

Expand Help

How does expanding/extracting work?

Windows: The file you download, "PHOTOADVENT2_W95_INSTALL.EXE", will automatically expand and install PhotoAdvent in the folder you choose when you double click on it. You will have an opportunity to cancel, if you'd like.

Macintosh: The file you download, "PhotoAdvent_2.0.sea.hqx", has been put in binary form (binhexed) so that it can be downloaded without being corrupted. You will need another program, such as Stuffit Expander, to return the installer to its normal format. This process is called de-binhexing.
In its normal form, the file is called "PhotoAdvent_2.0.sea". It is a self-extracting archive, which means you only need to double click on it in order to fully expand PhotoAdvent and its files. It will install PhotoAdvent in the folder you choose when you double click on it. You will have an opportunity to cancel, if you'd like.

You may find that Stuffit Expander or another program completely extracts the program when you de-binhex it. In this case, you will not have to run the self-extracting archive, since PhotoAdvent and its files will have already been completely extracted.

Where do the PhotoAdvent files go?

Windows:
  • By default, the files go in the folder "PhotoAdvent" inside the folder "Program Files" on your C: drive. (C:\Program Files\PhotoAdvent).
  • If you select a different folder when you run the installer, the files will go in the folder you select.

Macintosh:

  • If you install PhotoAdvent by double clicking on the installer application, you will be prompted to choose a folder in which to install PhotoAdvent. The files will go in the folder you select.
  • If Stuffit Expander or another application automatically extracts the file "PhotoAdvent_2.0.sea.hqx" for you completely, then it is likely that the folder will be created in the same folder that holds the file "PhotoAdvent_2.0.sea.hqx".
  • Alternatively, if Stuffit Expander or another program is set up to extract files to a default location, then the PhotoAdvent folder should be in the default location. (Check your extractor's preferences for details).

VBRUN300.DLL Help

What is VBRUN300.DLL?

VBRUN300.DLL is a file which allows programs written in Visual Basic 3.0 to run. It is a relatively small file (less than 400k). The file is usually placed in the computer's system folder. Because programs written in Visual Basic were and are very common, it is fairly normal for computer users to find that they already have VBRUN300.DLL on their computer.

If you do not already have VBRUN300.DLL on your computer, you will need to download it in order to run PhotoAdvent. (It is available from our site.) If you try to run PhotoAdvent without this file, nothing bad will happen, you will just be told that the program requires VBRUN300.DLL.

Where should the VBRUN300.DLL file go?

Windows 95/98:
  • VBRUN300.DLL should be placed in the System folder inside the Windows folder on your C: drive (C:\Windows\System).
  • It is possible, although not recommended, to place VBRUN300.DLL in the same folder as your PhotoAdvent application.

PhotoAdvent has NOT been tested extensively with Windows 2000/NT. Should you decide to try it, please remember that the following are only suggestions and may not work for you.

Windows 2000/NT:

  • It may be possible to place VBRUN300.DLL in the System or System32 folder inside the Winnt folder on your C: drive (C:\Winnt\System or C:\Winnt\System32).
  • It may be possible, although it is not recommended, to place VBRUN300.DLL in the same folder as your PhotoAdvent application.
